Freshlyground--- sound of South Africa

In previous blogs, we focus on some rock bands, now let’s try something new. Freshlyground, a band from South Africa, may be not that familiar to you. However, they are the most popular band in their hometown like super heroes.

Freshlyground's music style blends elements of traditional South African folk music, blues, jazz, and features of indie rock. Thus, they are actually a world band appeal to audience from Europe, Asia, America instead of a local one.

Another interesting thing is about their instruments. They play instruments that not only common ones like guitar, bass, keyboards, drums but also flute, violin, mbira, harmonica, traditional African instruments and some not widely used in bands.

As I said previously, their music style plus their unique instruments creates fantastic music. By the way, the lead vocal’s sound is so pure and cute that makes people unforgettable. Relaxation, cool, pure that is the feeling I get in their music.

It is time for music now-- one of my favorites.With soft voice and deep fascination, the sound is always lingering in your heart.

Super VC--- playing rock music as gentlemen

I cannot wait sharing you something of my favorite Chinese rock band Super VC, whose Chinese name is 果味VC. The band seems like new singers—they are fashion and cool however they had more than 10-year history, regarded as old band, lol. The guys have sense of humor, inspiration in music, good taste in fashion and that is why I love them so much.

  

  See, don’t they remind you of the greatest band the Beatles? Sometimes they restore the ancient style wearing ties and suits, playing rock music as gentlemen. Actually this is what makes them outstanding!!

Apart from their appearance, their music is also greatly influenced by some old bands like the Beatles, U2, the Stone Roses… But to some degree, they create their own style and always try new things.

Live is the soul of rock music, they definitely have advantage in the stage. They are into their music while they are explaining what is the spirit of rock n roll and what is the gentle spirit as well. They are absolutely attractive in to all their audience.

If you haven’t tried their music, just taste it…

The song is soft and slow letting you imagine a beautiful picture of night sky. At the same time, some pieces of memory may seep through your vein as the song brings you kind of meaning of time.

Now, enjoy a relaxing piece that brings you sunlight of the afternoon. By the way, the MV is directed by the bassist of the band.

coldplay --- my favorite forever

Possibly, nobody has not heard of the name “coldplay”, the band actually became popular when it hit to the world with pure British rock style and attractive voice of the lead singer—Chris Martin. The songs of them like Yellow, Viva La Vida are well-known and always played in radio shows around the world. There is simply no need to introduce more about them, so what I am going to do is just sharing the TOP 5 songs of Coldplay in my eyes and the my own experience on them. Music says everything!!

NO. 5 Trouble

The song expresses kind of situation that a poor man experiences great hardship when he hurt somebody without fault. The sad song shows deeply in emotion with a vivid picture of the man trapped in the spider web and cannot get out. Really moves people’s hearts.  

NO. 4 42

I was touched when I first listened to that song, the more I listened the more feelings I got. Shocks in my heart cannot be expressed in words especially at the point it turned into chorus when the lingering voice was suddenly replaced by bang hit with rock. Bended the topic of death, time such big things in fantastic music which let people get the feeling of infinity of time, life and the whole universe. Most interesting is about the name “42”, what does it mean??? I have not figured it out so far.

NO. 3 Viva La Vida

No need to say a word. With great music and lyrics the song will certainly be classic piece. I remembered when the first time I listened to that I got the melody, simple but terrific. However, the arrangement of music is not simple at all, which is a good model for listeners and musicians.

NO. 2 Fix you

The song makes part of me melt every time. It is written to Martin’s wife as her father just passed away. The feeling of despair goes through the song, but the highlight is all about “fix you”. When everything sucks and you cannot see any hope, there will always be someone lift you up—“fix you” as “lights will guide you home and ignite your bones “. Deep feeling and deep love!!!

NO. 1 Yellow

Definitely a classic love song. The band colors the feeling of love with yellow. “Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you. And everything you do. Yeah, they were all yellow”. Love shines people with the color yellow. And yellow reflects different feelings of love in people’s mind, maybe joy or excitement or something else. I am just wondering why numbers of yellow balloons always come into my mind when I listening to the song, so what is the picture of you???

The Killers

What I am going to talk about is the killers, one of the most popular rock band in present day. Originally, they come from Los Vegas, U.S, however they became the rock heroes in British’ eyes. All of the 3 albums won lots of fans for them, especially the latest one—days & ages. It includes their song Human and Spaceman, which respectively rank the top one for weeks in Billboard chart.

Actually, though people usually regard them as a rock band, it is not easy to define what style they are. They incorporate alternative, punk and kind of techno, of course rock music---to some degree, they create their own music.

  I can’t narrow down my favorite songs, but I will say that the latest album is my favorite one, and it did let me enter their music world and make me like them. Let's enjoy one of this album first!

It is cool, right? I think this song is about wanting to move on from or change something however when it finally happens you realize that you don't want it. The storytelling style is common in their works, but this one is absolutely the most creative and attractive piece in my eyes. It does not tell you the meaning directly but let you think more and the more you think the more you will figure out. We are tired of our current situation and we are always dreaming so much to change our life, however, when everything changes take place, you may find that the origin of your life is brilliant.Like literary masterpieces, there is no absolute correct interpretation for particular song lyrics. So I just share my feeling about the spaceman. And I am caring about YOUR opinions!!!

The brilliant music groups and bands

This is my first blog about the brilliant music groups and bands.

When it come the music groups and bands, which ones arise in your mind? Well, what I am going to share in the blog is about my favorite ones. But these are just a small part of my favorites. I am sure that some of the brilliant bands in the history are quite familiar to you guys such as, the Beatles, Guns & roses, ACDC, Queen, etc., so I do not want to waste time on anything on them.

Since I take great interest in rock music, I would like to tell the story about current rock band like Coldplay, the killers and Super VC, which is a Chinese rock band that I am really crazy about. Besides, Snow Patrol, the famous British pop band, is one of my favorite too.  Currently, I am addicted to a South African group called Freshly Ground----who created the song for the 2010 world cup, and I am willing to share you their music.
